Carabineros are wild-caught deep-sea prawns from Spain, sized 6–7 pieces per kilogram. They are famous for their vibrant red color and bold, rich flavor. Found at depths between 500 and 2,000 meters, they live on sandy and muddy seabeds and belong to the Palaemonidae family. These prawns are strong swimmers and feed on plankton, algae, and organic matter.
Carabineros offer a more intense taste than regular shrimp or prawns. Their heads are packed with flavor—ideal for making broths, sauces, or seafood creams. They are often mistaken for Moorish shrimp, but Carabineros stand out for their quality and depth of flavor.
